This weekend was always going to be tough, we should have been home by now & I was meant to be rolling around in the mud at my spiritual home, watching Wheezy Wino punch a fan & Jay Z beatboxing over Wonderwall... Gutted.
Who am I kidding?! I can't think of a better way to forget about Glasto than to live it up in Bangkok with our old festival friends, Exit NBF's Steph & Graham! We had eagerly anticipated our return to Bangkok & as usual the city did not disappoint!
The fun started on Weds night, when we introduced Steph & G to the obligatory first night boozing on Koh San Rd. Far too much Chang was consumed & although we started off with good intentions, we soon discovered the joys of drinking Towers of beer! Of course, it became much less of a joy the following morning, when the Changover kicked in & we dragged ourselves out of bed to go sightseeing at the Grand Palace. This was traumatic & not just because of our fragile condition we were inappropriately dressed & I was forced to wear a fetching little outfit of long skirt & mans shirt combo! I thought I was going to throw up all over the Emerald Budda! After that, we generally stuck to more refined drinking establishments like the uber cool Thai bars near Koh San & the open air cocktail bar on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree hotel! (with the exception of last night when we sipped on buckets of mojitos from the back of a VW Camper Van!)
Once again we've been pampered & preemed, with bleaching, waxing, massages & pedicures galore! And we have SHOPPED. Big Time! Round 2 was always gonna be shopping mayhem, but I was totally unprepared for just how much shopping I had in me! Siam Sq is my new shopping mecca - cool little indy designer fashion at Primark prices. I have literally spend 2 full days at this place & could still go back & buy more. Topshop has nothing on this place!
We also discovered that when it comes to Markets, Size does Matter. Chatuchauk Weekend Market is the Glastonbury of Markets - it is HUGE! We spent the best part of a day here & still didnt even see it all, admittedly we only stuck to the fashion section, but apparently they sell everything here, including Pedigree dogs! This place is amazing, I could have pitched a tent & stayed til the following day! I eventually came away with a variety of dresses & yet more Vintage shoes and Vish bought around 200 T-Shirts, I am not joking.
Of course, to cheer me up from the fact that we werent going to be sleeping in a soggy tent & having massive amounts of fun at the stone circle, Vish booked us into the Banyan Tree Hotel (any excuse). So whilst Kings of Leon were rocking the Pyramid Stage, I was listening to my ipod, indulging in Spa treatments & lounging around the poolside bar, but it really didn't have the same effect...
So we leave for the Islands in a couple of hours & I really don't wanna say Bye to Bangkok, there are a few more shopping hours left though so I may pop over to the Koh San Night Bazaar for some last minute retail therapy!
Glastonbury? What's that?
