We sailed into the Beagle Channel at around 4.30am this morning. We then continued along the Beagle Channel to the Port & Town of Ushuaia which they call the “Town at the bottom of the World” We had an early breakfast and then decided to have a walk around Ushuaia. As we came out of the ferry terminal there was a London Routemaster Bus, see photos, doing a tour of the town. So we hopped on and had a pleasant hour around the town. After that we walked back to the ship, sent some postcards and then came back on board for an early lunch, as we are off out again to the national park at Tierra del Fuego on a steam train this afternoon. Got to the train station “at the end of the world around 2pm. Boarded the train and went into the national park. Stopped at Estacion de Macarena, which has a nice waterfall. The train line was built by convicts from the prison in Ushuaia and ran between 1902 & 1942 bring timber to the town of Ushuaia. Many convicts died in the building of the railway. As we stood on the station we were fortunate enough to see a Black Breasted Buzzard Eagle which is native to the area. My iPhone would not capture it but my camera did so have to wait until I can download the camera photos. We then continued on to the last station, got back on the coach and went to Ensenada bay which highlights all of the beauty of the area. Along with having the most southern postbox on the continent. We came back into Ushuaia and I got off to take some photos of the “Malvinas” memorial to the Argentinian troops lost in the Falklands war. Bit ironic really as we are visiting the Falklands as our next port of call and I intend to honour friends and colleagues I lost during the same campaign. War is never good for either side
