Sailed overnight along the Gerlache Straits and off towards the South Shetland Islands. There are a lot of Antarctic Explorstion & Research Bases on South Shetlands along with both Argentinian & Chilean Military Bases. Today we are due to arrive at Elephant Island, so called it looks like the head & trunk of an Elephant. The famed Antarctic explorer Earnest Shackleton when he lost his ship, the Endurance, put his crew ashore here. He and four others then took a lifeboat and went in search of rescue. They eventually landed on South Georgia, where weirdly enough Shackleton was to die of a heart attack on a later journey. They were helped by a Chilean vessel and returned to rescue his crew. We saw a lot of whales again today, however this time they were Minkie Whales. We arrived at Elephant Island in beautiful sunshine and spent two hours there. The island has a number of freshwater glaciers which when not frozen tumble into the sea making the sea around those areas aqua marine blue almost like a Caribbean island. Lots of good photos, lots of whales seen and beautiful sunshine. Again we have been very lucky. At 4pm we set off on our journey north, passing Cornwallis Island, on our journey to the Falklands where we arrive on Tuesday morning. Just to say thanks Antarctica for letting us share your beauty for these too brief days.
