Erm, yeah, right, we made it - yipeeeeee!
Finally got Emma here! After about 16 hrs of airtravel, a few precarious moments where we thought the flight was going through Jakarta, and Emma didn't know if she was up for that! (Till we actually looked where Jakarta was on a map :-))
Been in Singapore two days and are now in Melaka in Malaysia. Jesus - What a bloody culture shock! Still getting used to stuff at the mo. Excellent hotel in Singapore, basically just wandered there, all through chinatown, to Orchard rd shopping area, then to Botanical gardens where we had to leave because Emma thought some monster was going to jump out of the bushes and eat her.
The heat in Singapore was almost unbearable, but it's much better here.
Already had our first little misshap, which was my fault, he, he - I managed to lose?throw away our departure cards from Singapore, so while everyone else on our bus was waiting we got swept into a little office with 2 customs officers and asked loads of questions, quite a sweaty moment. Anyway, figured that was the best place to do something like that.
Singapore is a super cosmopolitan, super clean, and super organized city, so I think it was a good place to start our journey from. Chewing gum is illegal, and you get a 500 S dollar fine for spitting on the street!
Oh yeah - New year's eve - Well, we had dinner, then decided to go back to the hotel to ask if there were fireworks anywhere (about 2230). Well, we though every skyscraper looked the same, so "thought" we were at our hotel around 15 times b4 we actually found it, by which time it was too late to reach fireworks so we decided to go to the hotel bar. At 31 dollars a glass we decided not to go for champagne, so ended up letting in the new year sober, with no drink round a bunch of mad locals!
Next day We had the worst meal ever - Emma got chicken with hairs on it and then threw up, ha ha.
Picture is of my favourite hang out bar in Chinatowm ;-)
Over and out
