Ok so today we did a 4 mile hike up Iao Needles.
There was a war here between 2 kings in a Hawaii and this is a damned river as they say it ran red with all of the blood, it was the first time a cannon was used in a war here. We started at a cultural centre wherethey have built korean temples, as when people from south east asia lianded here they also brought all the illnesses too which killed most of the Hawians that lived here, so they sent home for people to work the cane fields and were promised lots of money. However the money they earn't was used to pay for there travel over here so really they were tricked into being slaves. So these temples are they're way of apologising.
Ok so we started our 4 mile hike and it was totally off road, my legs are all scratched from the dried twigs and brambles. There was a Guava orchid which smelt amazing, we tried some of the fruit and it's not my thing I preferred the wild rasberries we picked out here. So we go to the top and it was an amazing view of the mountains and rain forest we just climbed up. But once your up the only thing left is to get down!!! MUCH FUN! we bascially threw ourselves from one tree to the next as it was that steep. When we got to the bottom we went swimming in a rock pool and yes it was freezing!! but very refreshing. (yes this was the damned river we we're swimming in!)
So we're back at the hostel fairly early, looking forward to tomorrows hike it's a long day though 11 hours, but we get to swim in seven sacred pools, apparently we'll see stuff you can't see any where else in the world, wicked and it'll be on my birthday who could ask for more.
