Last day in paradise, so I continued my exploring, this time trudging south along the beaches towards Diamond Head. First stop was the Aquarium, small but with nice tank displays of various local habitats, estuarine and reef. The most interesting attraction was the 2 Monk Seals. These are quite rare with only a thousand or so left in the local area.
Next stop was the Zoo, a much more extensive attraction, covering 16 acres. There were quite a few monkeys and apes, including gibbons, lemurs, chimps and 2 very shy orangutangs. There were lots of African animals including rhinos, hippos, zebras and giraffes. The Asian Elephants had the biggest enclosure. 2 Sumatran tigers attracted a lot of interested and looked very healthy pacing up and down, apparently waiting to be fed.
Back to the hotel for some last minute souvenirs. Dinner tonight was a rib eye at Chuck's Steakhouse downstairs, as I watched the sun set for the last time this trip.
I am now sitting on my verandah enjoying the breeze and the beach sounds as I type this blog.
Signing off for now folks as I need to prepare for an obscenely early start tomorrow.
Bye.
