We have arrived safely in Barcelona and now have enjoyed two perfect days in the city.
Getting here was mostly smooth although the Brits (we flew British Airways and had a layover at Heathrow) are very strange and lousy hosts. After dinner they left the trays in front of us for nearly an hour. I (this is Bethany) was so overwhelmed and irritated and I kept thinking it was a false imprisonment. Although I went through the elements of a false imprisonment tort like a good law school troll and decided it was not given the reasonable means of escape: I asked the stewardess to take my tray. Apparently they had to serve tea first.
Once we arrived in Heathrow we only had an hour to make our connection because our first flight was delayed. One would think that's enough time, but not when the Brits are running the show. As the daughter of a civil engineer I feel fully qualified to say that Heathrow is a poorly designed airport. Just take my word for it. Nevertheless, after never-ending escalators, a never-ending shuttle, going through security, twice, and a run to catch the shuttle out to the plane before the gate closed, we made it and have been having a great time since.
We wandered the Gothic Quarter in the day and again at night. We toured Gaudi's Temple de la Sagrada Familia, and we ate and drank among the locals before heading out to La Rambla, the main street, where we used poor French and Spanish to communicate with some Italians. Among them a farmer (of wine as they said), a construction manager, an Econ professor, and a realtor. We got across that we are soon to be attorneys. They said they hate attorneys, (who doesn't?) and called me the devil's advocate. Lots of laughing and learning and around 3am we called it a night and each in turn gave me a kiss on each cheek. Oh, and I told them mi mama es Italiana y mi papa es Cubano. They said I look it.
Today we wandered another part of the city then went to a Flamenco show. A buffet dinner was part of it before the show and they had the best paella I've ever had, sorry mom. The show itself was amazing minus the drunk Germans that talked the whole way through. I had no idea Flamenco dancing involved so much tap. It was very cool, very loud and lively too. I have no idea what they said when they sang but the music was good and it looked pretty.
That's it for now. Tomorrow is the beach if the predicted lightning storm doesn't come through.
