We travelled to Nha Trang by overnight train and it was definatly the worse one yet! Kaye's bed came equipped with 3 cockroaches (although it was quite funny watching her trying to catch them). Steven and I slept on the bottom bunk which was pretty bumpy but we made it safely to Nha Trang the next afternoon.
The weather we were greeted by was beautiful and after finding a guest house we headed out to explore. There is one beach that runs along 6km of Nha Trang so we spent the afternoon cooling off in the sea and watching the world go by...
We spent 7 days in total in Nha Trang and relaxed a lot after covering so much distance in so little time. We spent most days chilling on the beach or by a pool that we found. One afternoon we were approached by an old Aussie guy who asked us if we fancied going out on his sailing boats-there was a film crew filming a boat race rom Hong Kong to Nha Trang and they wanted some shots of people doing water sports. We obviously didn't turn down a free go on the water so we piled into two of his catamarans. It was a breezy day so it made for good sailing and when we were finished Steven and Rossy had a go at Wakeboarding (like waterskiing but on one board)- there lack of experience meant they got extremely wet!!
On another afternoon we bought some crayfish on the beach off a little vietnamese lady who cooked them in front of us. She carries a bamboo stick with a basket on either side-one has fresh fish in and the other a metal bowl with hot coal inside it and a grill on top! She de-legged, split, cooked and seasoned 6 large crayfish and they were yummy....
The nightlife it Nha Trang was great, we met some other travellers and met up with people we had seen in Halong Bay and Hue (a couple we kept bumping into so we decided to travel together for a while)
After drinking far too much vodka and relaxing for a while we left Nha Trang for Mui Ne (a little fishing village 5 hours down the coast) and arived to find even nicer beaches and weather. The view from our beach hut bungalow was gorgeous and we could have stayed there forever.
On our first day in Mui Ne we hired scooters and travelled to the White Sand dunes 25km away. The scooter ride was scary at first (as the fingernail marks in Stevens waist would prove) but after 5 or 10 mins I started to relax and really enjoyed the ride along the coast. 40 mins later we arrived at the sand dunes and rented plastic matts to ride down the vast banks of white sand. It was a lot of fun although sliding down inevitably meant climbing back up!!
We left Mui Ne for Da Lat at 7.30 am and were promised a nice air conditioned bus with plenty of leg room- when it arrived it was packed full of people and backpacks and the 4 hour bus ride to follow was pretty uncomfortable! Da Lat is in the central highlands of Viet Nam (basicaly on top of a mountain) and gets quite cold in the evenings with rain in the mornings. It was nice to cool off for a while but we only stayed there for one evening after spending the day visiting the local waterfalls a few miles away. Our next stop is Saigon where we intend to enjoy some city life before crossing the border into Cambodia.
