On the sunday early evening we crossed the Colorado river into Arizona and set up our tents alondside the lake. I then cooked beef fajihitas for the whole group and we all had a few beers a got to know everyone.
The next morn we we up early for breakfast and to headed to the Grand Canyon. Was bit of a drive but coffee stops on the way! Most of the group including me were dropped first at the helicopter place for our flight over the canyon. Never been in a chopper before so that was fun and the view of the canyon was fantastic. It is so vast and you really get to appreciate that from the air. In the afternoon we then drove to the national park itself and did a walk part way down and a walk along the edge of the canyon to the observation point. From here we watched the sunset behind the canyon, definately the best sunset I have ever seen.
That evening we all went out for pizza and stayed ina hostel that night cause it was too cold to camp (lucky for me as i am lacking a sleeping bag!!)
The next day, tues, we travelled west through the Kaibab National Forest and onto the Route 66. Here we stopped at a famous part of route 66, which has been kept 'back in time' as it were. Some very tacky souviner shops included! From there we journed through the Mojave dessert into Nevada.
excuse the palm trees the site doesnt have a pic of the canyon...unbelievable!!
