Bermudapep - Never stop Exploring or integrity.
The land of eternal sun, snow, bugs, and fog! I have just come down from the Davidson glacier to Haines. The mountain Guiding trip was, like many things in my life, full of contadiction. Beauty and the beast! Some days were wonderful, 100% sun and climbing massive glaciers and extended mountains. On other days we were confined to tents while the fog, rain and depression - weather that is; swirled around us. Other lows, besides the weather, were pooping on a plastic bucket... for 21 days! Being unshowered for 21 days - I cheated as I used a small trickelet to rinse on day 16. Being caked in sweat and sun lotion for 21 days! Trying to sleep in a tent, with no darkness, horrendous body odors, and two snoring guys for... you guessed it - 21 days! And dirnking water with hair, floaters, food, iceworms and more for 21 days!! On the up side the food was good, views were impressive and the 6 mountains we climbed were grand! We did learn some new stuff but the teaching motivation seemed lacking. Finally on the flight out I felt strangely attached to this ice field after 21 days of eating, drinking and clambering around on it! All in all it was a good trip... some frustrations, much tedium, but a special place few people experience in their lives. In Haines I am biking around checking out bald eagles, bears, and salmon. I also am hoping to go rafting, kayaking and fishing... then fourth of July festival here and in the evening board the 4 day ferry to Bellingham, Washington. All the best guys - PEter
