Day 3 - She said: Today was a pretty low-key day. After our big dinner and pub outing, on top of our day of driving and fresh air, we slept in a bit this morning. It was lovely.
Once we got all packed up to head out for the day, we decided to wander around Punta Arenas a little bit. We stopped into a bookstore that wasn't quite what we expected, then made our way down to the water again.
On our way back up to the main drag, we happened upon Cafe Montt, where I discovered that cortado is my coffee experience of choice. We had tostados con queso, as well, which just started our day off nicely in the fuel department.
After a couple of coffees and our little food experience, we stopped by Plaza Muñoz Gamero once again to check out some of the stalls around the plaza where folks sell their wares. We got a penguin for the kiddo (figure he's not reading the blog, so no surprise has been spoiled), and I bought a beautiful ball of yarn for the equivalent of $8. It probably would've been over $20 at home. So....that was good.
After hanging in the plaza for a bit and seeing our "Kealy" dog again (SO cute), we made our way back to the hotel to enjoy our wi-fi. I won't really go into detail there...it was wi-fi. What is there to say?
Around 3:45, Carolina came to pick us up and we were off to the airport for our flight to Puerto Montt. The Punta Arenas airport is teeny and adorable and trusting. Seriously, the security dude checking the bags on the x-ray scanner was on his phone, and the other security dude was talking to people while we went through the personal scanner thing. I guess not much really goes down at that airport, and I totally felt good about it.
Our flight to Puerto Montt was, again, uneventful. That's how we like it.
Once we arrived, we were greated by Paola/Paula (not sure how you'd spell it, but I'm spelling it Paulala). She was delightful and remarked on how easy our accent was to understand. Sorry Australia. We won that battle. Paula said so.
Our lovely Paula dropped us at our adorable hotel, Hotel Don Luis, in Puerto Varas. She directed us to Club Aleman (the German Club), where we had an awesome (and ridiculously filling) seafood dinner. Andy had the eel stuffed with shrimp (which I wished I'd ordered), and I had the salmon stuffed with crab and cheese. Yeah, I can't complain. I ordered it because the primary industry here is salmon fishing, so I figured, "how bad could it be?" Not bad. That's the answer.
We started dinner off with what we've learned is the national beverage, the delicious pisco sour again. It's really good. We then enjoyed a couple mugs of Kunstmann beer with our dinners. We're full, and turning in now, as we have an early start tomorrow for our drive from Puerto Varas to Villa La Angostura and our "primary" accommodations.
