So on the 20th November, we got the early boat over to Krabi, Ao Nang beach. The boat was a speed boat that took about 1.45mins. Jess has started to concur my fear of boats, we sunbathed at the front of the boat, i was only a little bit paranoid about falling off, Jess on the other hand managed to fall asleep. The views on the boat were breathtaking. We arrived at our guest house, named KL guesthouse, the room was nice and clean, we opted for a fan room as it was cheaper (we would soon regret this decision) the only thing that it was missing was a window. We spent some of the afternoon on Ao Nang Beach, which was beautiful, but instead of sand it was tiny little shells. The sea was also so warm and shallow. The latter part of the afternoon we spent in a cafe as it decided to rain and i was starting to turn a lovely shade of crimson. Dinner that night was an Indian, which was something we hadn't had yet, so it was a nice change we followed this by some cocktails, i had a cocktailed named a swimming pool, which was one of the most awful things I've ever tasted, but of course i saw it off.
Our 1st night in our room was interesting, firstly it was very hot with just a fan, but in the morning we had no idea what time it was as it was pitch black in there. Today was the day i decided to man up and let Jess rent a moped...sorry mum. Everyone in south East Asia drives mopeds, it's the only way to get around, and they seem to be how to get the family around. Jess was the driver and i was the passenger. I actually really enjoyed being on the back of the bike, i think mum and dad have instilled too much fear in me about it. We rode along the beach front to the next bay Nopparat Thara Beach, which was a nicer beach than Ao Nang, it was quieter and sandy. The water around Krabi is so clear as well, which i like as i can see the bottom or potential creatures that will hurt me. Also the tide was out so that meant we could walk up to the large rocks/islands that where around here, and see all the thousands of tiny crabs. Also i am donning factor 30 as the sun was so burny, that even with this factor i was burning, was not fun. Back on the ped we accidently ended up in Krabi town, which i must say is an absolute hole, it was run down, dirty and deserted. We just weren't expecting this as everywhere else we had been had been so nice. We also couldn't find anywhere to eat so we ended up in some crappy Italian where i was severed 8 pieces of pasta. So we made a swift exit and hopped back on the ped to then get lost and rained on, but got back to Ao Nang to watch the sunset on the beach. This night was the flower festival, we were looking forward to it as it was supposed to be so beautiful, however when we walked out of hotel, the heavens opened up and the town was a complete wash out, so we never managed to get down to the front and took refuge in an all you can eat restaurant, where they cook you up fresh meat on the BBQ and by god we ate like kings that night.
The 22nd we had Phi Phi Island tour, although i was feeling ill and coldy i got myself together and got on with it. We were having a speedboat tour around the island, we sat at the front of the boat in the sun with the only other Europeans, which i can say now was a mistake as i yet again got so burnt. We first went to a small deserted beach to cool off and relax after the very bumpy ride over to Phi Phi. Then back on the boat to see Lohsamah bay which was amazing, the sea was so clear the mountains where spectacular, this was in Phi Phi Lay, we also passed Viking caves. Next stop was Maya Bay, which is where the Beach was filmed. Although it didn't look how it was in the movie as it's a massive tourist attraction and was full of boats and tourists, but it was still very nice to say i seen and been there. We also did our 1st bit of snorkeling, which was a lot better than koh Tao as the water was so clear and there was so many more exotic fish. We were back on the boat to then go to Phi Phi Don, the island that is inhabited, our tour guide told us about the devastation after the Tsunami and how 3000 people died on the island. Lunch was a bit of a nasty buffet and we killed an hour and half wandering around the markets on the Island, it was pretty crowded in the bit we were in. I am quite glad we didn't stay there as it would have been far too busy. After lunch, we headed to monkey bay, my favorite place so far on the trip, we didn't go to the beach as apparently the monkeys bite. So we did some snorkeling, the coral and the fish was amazing, so many different colours, hundreds of fish, you are literally swimming through schools of them, it's a little scary. They are completely surrounding you. We saw so many varieties of fish, we were able to swim around all the rocks and cave areas, and the coral here was bright green. We also saw a lion fish, the really poisonous ones, although it was so beautiful. The highlight was seeing dolphins, about 8 of them swimming near our boat; i have never seen wild dolphins before till now. Back in our room, we opted to pay an extra 200THB to get the aircon working so we could cool down, our clothes has got damp it was so hot. Dinner that night was one of the worst meals we have had so far, it was some nasty pizza, so yet again we made a swift exit to an ice cream parlor to fill our faces with a huge chocolate sundae, and then an early night as we need to be up at 6am for our bus to Penang, Malaysia.
