We arrived here by sleeper-train on the great Reunification Express (although 'express' isn't quite the word I would use), to be greeted by grey, wet weather.......and an almost city-wide power cut!
Hue doesn't have a huge amount of things to see as most of it was destroyed during the 'American War'. Still, it is interesting to wander around whats left of the Imperial Enclosure and the (wonderfully named) Forbidden Purple City. There is also the pagoda made famous by the monk that set fire to himself in 1963 - the car that he drove there is still on display!
The best thing though, is to hire some bikes and get out into the country (and get a little lost in the process)! There are several Royal Tombs scattered just outside the city, all set within lovely lush forests etc. that definitely made up for getting lost!
Finally, the other thing that struck us was the number of times a cyclo or motorbike driver would ask us if we wanted "boom boom"! It was much more often than in Hanoi. And why is it that all the countries in SE Asia refer to sex as boom boom??!
