Wow! - That last few days have taken me by surprise! I've done stuff that I never even though were possible in Australia. :D
I left DT and chilly Melbourne behind, catching my OzEx bus to Sydney at 6:15am in the morning on the 14th. See.... the internet site for the OzEx said that I departed for and arrived in Sydney the same day - but oh no... When the driver rocked up (Phil - Legend) the first thing he said is "Wheeeyyy! You guys hyped and ready for Snow!?" This confused me... Turned out that it was actually a 3 day trip to Sydney, with a stop off at the Great Dividing Range for a snowboarding session along the way!!!!! :D I'd been waiting to go snowboarding for soooooooo long - and I got about 5 hours on the slopes, full pass, all gear, board and a 2 hour lesson all for $120!! It was such a good day - by the end I was going down from the top of a couple of slopes and building up some good speed and pretty good control! :D Can't wait to do it again - Az, YOU, ME SNOWDOME, BEFORE UNI, DONE - Candada next! WHOO!
The journey all in all from Melbourne was really good - Stopping off frequently along the way to do a couple of walks into the countryside - seeing wild kangaroos, Kualas and Emus. It really felt like I'd hit Australia when we had an expance of straight road ahead of us with a deserty mountainous backdrop. Sweet As! We stopped off in Canberra... a 'designed' capital city which was actually kinda strange - only about 400,000 people live there, almost all of whom are government workers - it's a capital city for the purpose of being a capital city - we did a drive round all the different embassies in the 'Embassy Section' of the city and no doubt the USA had a most stupidly big one - others like Papua New Ginea had wicked aboriginal buildings for them.
Anyway - we arrived in Sydney - and Im staying at the Woodduck Backpackers Hostel which has a rooftop terrace with surfboards for tables an shizzzz... so its all good. While in Sydney we've been doing the classic tourist stuff - Taken a walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge which is actually exactly the same as the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle but bigger - The Opera House which is awesome - photos can sum it up... Famous Bondi and Manly Beaches and had fish n chips etc etc etc.
Last night be had an awesome night out - I let by budget be blown to smitherines for the Oz Party Bus!! :D Basically involved packing a bus with way too many people, fitted with booming speakers and stobe lights - stopping at 5 different bars through the night and getting free drinks at each. True Rave!
Tomorro, nice and early - I begin my propper trip up the east coast... At Pace! Realised that I only have 3 weeks left to get up the coast - so its all been booked now - Surf Camp in 1 day... Fraser Island and the Whitsundays on the horizon!! Gunna be a crazy last section of my Epic Odyssey! CANT BELIVE ITS SO CLOSE TO ITS END!! Im seriously considering a Skydive in Cairns Mission Beach to top it all off! :D :D :D
