Final Two Days
Amsterdam 18th -19th Feb
We had to take it pretty easy on our last full day in Amsterdam. The mystery of the foot pain had still not been solved, and I could barely walk. It was bizarre, I walked to Boom Chicago without a problem, then after the hour of the show it didn't work. Anyway, we had a late start, and grabbed breakfast at the bakery.
Dan suggested an easy way of seeing the city without walking was to take a canal boat tour. We found a good deal and set off on the 1.5 hour tour. It was really nice, even though we'd seen most of the streets already on foot, it was just lovely and relaxing to see them from the water.
After we just strolled around more of the city, taking inmore of the beautiful town. We then took a walk throufh the Vondelpark - an incredibly huge park just near where we were staying. Matt had put the idea in Dan's head about walking on the frozen ponds in the park. He was tempted, but not game enough to step out onto the frozen bodies of water!
We decided to have another look at the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum as it was much later in the day than when we first went to have a look. We found that the Van Gogh museum was really expensive and we weren't that interested, and the Rijksmuseum was undergoing heavy renovations and only about 1/3 of the exhibitions were on display, so we decided to give them both a miss.
We spent a small part of the rest of the afternoon taking it easy in the hotel and getting our bags organised for the trip home the following day. We did venture out for a dinner that Dan had been looking forward to the whole time we were in Amsterdam; All-you-can-eat Ribs. We'd shopped around on the ribs and found the cheapest one in Leidseplain - 11 Euros - and plonked ourselves down for a feast. They weren't the best ribs, the waitress was incredibly rude, there was an unpleasant smell wafting from somewhere and I didn't bother with seconds but it was enjoyable. Dan had seconds and enjoyed the ribs much more than I did, but it was a filling and affordable meal, and apparently the thing to do when in Amsterdam.
The rest of the evening was spent packing up and just relaxing before heading to bed.
Our Amsterdam trip ended with a day of basically just getting up, packing up, having breakfast and checking out, before making the big trek back to the train station. We had to stop many times along the way to pick up the required souvenirs (Amsterdam have had the best this far!). I purchased a lovely pair of 'clog' slippers. We jumped on the train to the airport and then onto our flight back to Heathrow - completely event free thankfully. Loved Amsterdam, we just wished it was a bit warmer. We might be able to go for another visit in the summer. Can we Dan? Please???
