Well, San Sebastian didn't exactly save any sunshine for us! We arrived to the most stupendous golden sandy beach and turquoise blue sea and decided to seize the moment and go for a little paddle. This was a good job as it was our last shot at beach time given that the storm clouds swiftly came in and the next day and a half were cloudy and grey with that beautiful turquoise sea covered in mist.
Given the poor weather we decided to explore the Old Town where a new form of tapas has been developed - pintxos. Not being able to dedicate ourselves to the sun we dedicated ourselves to food and culture instead doing a bit of bar crawling (a pintxos in each place!), found ourselves in the midst of a traditional dance for a newly married couple and learned the ins and outs of Basque culture at the San Telmo Museum. Oh and we found Nemo at the aquarium!
The food joy continued when we arrived in Madrid today. The city was the perfect temperature for sight seeing so we wandered down to the Palacio Real before dedicating ourselves to an evening in the San Miguel Market. If you are heading to Madrid anytime soon then my goodness, go there! In fact plan a trip to Madrid simply so you can go there! It is HEAVEN! Loads and loads of stalls all selling different spanish foods for a euro or two a pop. I ate the best chirizo of my life (cue embarrassingly loud yummy noises!), croquettes, a mozzarella wrap full of pesto and salami, giant olives all washed down with some rioja and a massive glass of cream sherry. Did I say heaven already?!
Naturally this was not enough to fully satisfy our gluttony so we went on to San Gino a famous Madrid chocolate shop where we dipped chirros into hot chocolate and practically wept with the sheer joy of it. I am enormous and now in a food coma in our hotel and I don't regret a single morsel. In fact I'm moving to Madrid!! Jokes!!
So tomorrow sees us off to Seville for Flamenco and some oranges we hope (us, typical tourists?! No!). Catch you later alligators!
