Well, we left Spain in style! Barcelona was buzzy and super cool, just like I expected in would be. We started off with a bus tour of Gaudi's famous sites before lunch on Barceloneta beach. That has got to be one of the major perks of this city, beautiful sandy beaches within ten minutes of the main town. The food was wonderful and a glass of wine over looking the sparkly blue sea was a major highlight.
The afternoon brought more sight seeing, Barcelona is packed with things to do, followed by a little siesta in our hotel which contained what must be the world's largest bed! The relative cool of the evening allowed us to explore the central area and cathedral before embarking on our final spanish tapas of our trip. We went out in style! Patatas Bravas, Iberian ham croquettes, giant juicy prawns and so big succulent olives. Unfortunately Ben got a bit of a interesting specimen of an olive that he likened to licking the back of an old man who has just been swimming in the sea. Let's not spend too much time worrying about how he knows that....!
Travelling the length of Spain (and back up again!) has been a real eye opener in the culture and landscape of the place. From the Pine forests and rolling hills of the north to the arid centre and snow capped Sierras of Granada in the South. It was constantly surprising and the train really has to be one of the best ways to see it. The fierce independence of many of the regions and the variety in history and architecture makes it feel like we have visited several countries rather than just one. Still, the sense of fun and high energy Spanish way has been the same throughout. Grabbing food and a beer whenever you fancy is just a lovely way to be. Bars are really neighbourhood places always with a homemade tortilla waiting. Needless to say we will be back again for sure but for now we are on our way to France again and exciting for everything it has to offer.
Love to you all xx
