For our final day in Siem Reap we had hoped to visit some of the further away temples, but transport was too expensive for us so we decided to spend the day in town then do a shorter trip for sunset. In the morning I visited the local market and some handicraft shops while Ben had a foot massage (not a job for the faint hearted!). After lunch we went for a walk along the river and stopped for a drink at a café situated within a butterfly garden.
It had been raining on and off all day and the grey skies meant the sunset potential was slim but we thought it would still be nice to visit Angkor Wat again. We strolled around and took in the details we had missed on our first visit, under ever darkening skies. For some reason we still found ourselves perched in a good location to see in the direction the sun would have set, even though it was now raining pretty heavily! Finally we gave in and hurried back to our tuk-tuk, only to find our driver dressed in a full-body poncho with only his little face peering out.He zipped us into the waterproof cover on the tuk-tuk where we remained relatively dry while he got absolutely drenched!Well earned $5 on his behalf!
The Temples of Angkor were by far some of the most impressive sites we have visited on this trip.We had expected it to be good, but we were totally blown away by the whole experience. It's hard to describe any of the temples in words that can justify how amazing they are, but we hope the photos will go some way towards achieving that.
