So after a pleasant ferry ride we arrived at Ko Lanta and got a taxi to a hotel we had read about. It seemed strangely deserted, with not many guests, but we were offered a cheaper price and couldn't complain! The swimming pool overlooked the beach which was nice and very long. We were somewhat surprised at how quiet everything was, we knew that the low season prices were about to start, (and on our first afternoon there was a huge storm, which showed the weather was turning) but many bars were closed already. However, although low season was approaching it turned out it was due to the New Year, we'd just picked the quietest days to come. We ate in a great Scandinavian Pizzeria (random but awesome food) and had our first wine of the trip which was lovely and probably not Thai! Tuesday and Wednesday were spent by the pool and trying to update the blog with photos.....absolute nightmare, ended with me very frustrated having sat doing a photo album for ages and then a partial power cut causing my computer (not Ben's) to turn off. However, a few photos of Laos did somehow remain and I have now added some more. This power cut also hit our hotel so what do you do at 17:30 with no lights in your bungalow? You go to the bar and order cocktails of course. And play cards by candlelight until it just gets too hard to know what cards you've got. We set out for dinner armed with out torches but luckily the power came back on.
All in all, Ko Lanta was nice but everything seemed quite spread out and it was very quiet. I would go back but maybe only in high season!
