Having arrived in Singapore we decided to check ourselves into a 'posh' hotel for a couple of nights. Having arrived mid afternoon we had a wander around the City and discovered the hundreds of shopping malls that Singapore had to offer (Luce was in heaven) and looked around at some of the food courts. In the evening we headed over to Little India which was brilliant. Every Sunday evening all the men who live in Singapore of Indian descent meet up to eat and drink in the City. Walking around you are greeted with smells of incense, sounds of music and more importantly smells of Curry! We were the only tourists around and we had a really good meal in one of the many restaurants.
The next day we did a walking tour round chinatown and visited the Chinatown Heritage Centre, which was really good. In the afternoon we visited Singapore Zoo which was one of the best Zoos we had both ever seen. The animals are not caged, they roam freely so you are able to see them close up. The highlight of the day was the orang-utans who swing through the trees right above you. We were able to see them being fed and were lucky enough to have our picture taken with them.
In the evening we had a burger and beer before joining the night safari. This allows you to witness the animals in their habitat at night. First we jumped on the night train which takes you around the zoo before we went on the three walking trails. Walking around you get to see the lions, leopards, elephants etc going about their nightly business. It was amazing to see the animals in this way as most of the animals were a lot more active.
Our final day was spent looking for a camera for Lucy on Orchard Road. Orchard is a shoppers paradise, hundreds of multi storey shopping centres. After much looking and tough negotiations Lucy purchased her camera and was now hoping to become chief photographer for the rest of our journey. Having bought the camera we had a further look at the sights. Having decided that we were not dressed appropriately and insufficient funds we decided that high tea at Raffles was a no go. Instead we formed our own restaurant entitled Scruffles - a delicacy of skittles, crisps and beer was served! We really enjoyed our time in Singapore, although slightly pricey the City itself was lovely. Our time in Asia had ended and although we wish we had had longer to explore further towns and cities were equally looking forward to what lay ahead down under.
