Guten Tag ja!
I met some canadians the other night and they put me onto a free blog site. looked pretty cool, you write the blog then email the link to family and friends and they can follow it like a twitter.
So here is my very first entry. admitedly Berlin isnt me first stop on the national lampoon backpack but better late than never! Frist port was Paris for a week then Amsterdam for another few days. And Now Berlin! but I digress.. Berlin is an amazing city. The poeple are firendly, the food is cheap and the city is so rich in culoture and history - although I hear Munich is even better.
There will be more photos to come in later posts, this is devoted to 'The Pork Knucke'. I'm sharing a dorm with 9 other poeple and one of the dorm friends I made, (steph) mentioned she wanted to have a traditional german dinner before she left for prague. I was also hankering for a bit of german grubb so we set off to the local market square in search of a beer garden.
It needs to be said that the Euro Cup is on and on ths particular night Germany was playing Greece so as you can imagine the square was packed!! We found a seat neaxt to some Americas on holiday and I ordered a Dark wheat beer and a crispy ksinned pork knuckle. Steph got the Schnitzel which looked just as appetizing. Well as you can see in the photo the knuckle was huge! it was served with sauerkraut and potato dumplings dressed witha darl a;e sauce. YUMMMMM. the skin was super crisky - real crackling and the meat on the knuckle was fall off the bone. so succulent it jsut melts in the niuth. It was a mammoth dish, but for 12euro I wasn't wasting a bite. I even managed an Ice cream at the end.
Germany won 4:0 so everyone left in high spirits. All in all, a good night!
Side note, the google maps tag is of the Hostel I'm currently residing in.
Danke and Tschüs
