Hi Everyone!!!!
Finally found ourselves a computer and can write a long blog for once! Today is the last day of our tour in Tanzania and it has been absolutely fantastic!! From that last blog I wrote about seeing the lions and cheetah we have seen heaps more! That afternoon we were leaving the masai mara game park and saw the same cheetah with her two cubs eating a freshly hunted antelope! They were right on the side of the road, about 10 metres away, we couldnt believe it! We missed out on the kill by about 5 minutes but it was good to see the cheetahs finally got there food! (We had seen the same 3 cheetahs in the morning stalking some gazelle however they ended up running off when they saw the baby cheetah so missed out on a kill). We went to the Kenyan Highlands and saw where they make tea, which we thought wouldnt be that exciting but was actually pretty interesting! (Mum - that teabag your dunking right now was probably from Kenya!!) After this we came over the border into Tanzania and it was crazy to see the instant change in the people and landscape. We found Kenya to be very dirty, rubbish everywhere, but Tanzania is clean, the people really look after the land and its much greener than Kenya. Stayed one night at Lake Victoria which was beautiful, huge lake, over 200km wide, it actually felt more like the ocean than a lake in the middle of Africa. Headed to the Serengeti national park and camped in there with no fencing or protection around the campsite, we had Hyenas walking right by our tents, they make this weird barking/howling noise and they were so so SO close to our tent. In the morning we had a mixed herd of wildebeest and zebra walking about 150m away from our tents, hundreds!!! Have had some excellent animal sightings, including a lioness walking with 3 one month old cubs not far from the truck. Have seen some hyenas chasing wildebeest in the Ngorongoro crater, had a lioness walk right next to the 4wd and if i had wanted to touch it i could have she was so close! Have a video of that...and taken about 1600 photos so far. Saw a leopard, unfortunately hiding well in a dark tree so the photos arent great but at least it finished of our spotting of the top 5!! Have visited a traditional Masai village and both of us got to dance with them (Lee got to jump with them, very entertaining!) They live in the tiniest mud and dung huts and live on a diet of milk, blood and cow meat. Experienced the annoying sellers at the markets, friendly but very persistant, visited an amazing school set up for the poorest of poor children in Arusha called St Jude and all in all have had a fantastic experience. Our tour guides have been great, Moses our local guide, Alfred aka Hungryman the driver and Soloman our fantastic cook!!! Flying out to Zanzibar for a week tomorrow to relax on the beach before 3 weeks in Egypt!! Hope everyone is well and thank you for the messages (and all the birthday txts for Lee!!)! Love you all Bek & Lee!! (Ps Jack im still waiting on an email of you in your army cadets outfit...you promised you would send one or NO HAT FOR YOU BUDDY!!!!)
