hello all, still on caye caulker. Went on a snorkling tour y-day for the whole day. we went out on a sail boat with about 15 other people. after about an hour of sailing we stopped at the first dive spot. there was lots of amazing coral and these amazing huhe blue fish. Then the skipper - mario called us over and on the bottom about 10ft down were 2 Manatees!! apparently they're quite rare to spot so we were really lucky, they were amazing and swam really close being inquisitive.
the next dive spot was 'shark ray alley'. as we were about to get in the water a massive tiger shark came to the boat, Mario said he was looking for bait, i think we were the bait! but on his encouragment we all got in and mario brought it in close with a fish and i managed to stroke it, was so cool, feels kinda like sandpaper. there were lots of other small sharks there too. also saw 2 rays and they come so close to you, about 1 ft away and could touch its back as you feed it.
the final stop was at a big drop off in the coral, so the water was a lot cooler. here there was a little cave tunnel you could free dive down to and swim through. i did it, well pleased with myself. as we were snorkling back to the boat i saw the biggest barracuda, must be about 5ft long, it was a evil looking thing, was more scared of that than the shark! some of the others saw a turtle, but i think i was daydreaming at that time, gutted. Had the most amazing time, and would do it all again now if had the chance. will defo try to go snorkling again.
i ate lobster for tea. yum yum yum , didnt think i would like it but was so nice, was cooked on a bbq on the beach. delicimo.
heading back to the main island today (or tomoz) to head to Lamainai - mayan ruin in the jungle.
Adios xxx
