Well we have left Salvador now so I thought I'd give you an update.
After the epic bus journey we settled into the Salvador spirit and met some great people. We started the week off with a dodgy 2 nights in a Poussada. It was overlooking a small square where we were lucky to see the Odolum drummers (famous for being on a Michael Jackson video!) and the big screen for the second Brazilian qualifier for the World Cup. The atmosphere was amazing! There was a sea of yellow and green people!
We then headed off to a HI hostel, Hostel Larenjaras, and booked in for another 4nights. We then began to relax a bit more. Allthough we were in the historical part of the city there was still alot of beggars and 'scallywags' looking for small change and opportunities to steal to feed their addictions. BUT apart from that the archeticture was stunning and the locals were very friendly (...Lucianna) and helpful. We sampled all the local food... however we have just found out that we ate all the parts of a pig in one dish that was black! yum...
We met a big bunch of travellers in Zulu bar and decided to head out to the local reggae club. It was an experience but we took over the place and showed them how to dance!! We ran into a bit of trouble on the way home as Joel decided to be too friendly to a little boy who then stole his watch. Instead of walking away they decided to chase the boy into the farvelas... good idea boys, leaving us to make our way home alone. Luckily the tourist police were at hand and walked us home.
We managed to get some valuable beach time in too, to try and look abit more local with our tans. Lucianna also took us to a popular local beach with the Londoners and dutch girl. Here we experienced the local fish stew and watched the sun set behind a church.
Charlotte got to sample samba dancing but I had lost my voice and Becky was suffering from the night before where we were majorly drunk on blagged red wine, caiprihani's and free lemon cello! Needless to say Becky spent the night on the toilet floor.
We were all sad to leave Salvador but we were ready for the next adventure...
Natal here we come!
