Campeche by the sea! Well, I must say it is a very pleasant place to break up a mega bus journey from cancun to mexico DF. Although last night was not fun. The guy sitting next to me was curled up in his seat in the most bizarre position, so when the bus moved he kept nudging my arm, but fortunately he smelt nice, so it wasn´t too bad. The flipping family that got on in Mérida at 4 in the morning though. ARGH. They were SO noisey. And I think they interrupted the half hour´s sleep that I actually managed to have. mala onda.
But Campeche has lots of pretty buildings and a really nice promenade type thing by the sea which is as flat as a pancake, despite the huge storm hurricane thing that seems to be going on nearer the end of the peninsula. Just to let you know folks. I´m OKAY. I haven´t been blown away, or flooded or experienced power cuts or or anything. It isn´t even raining here. It was a pretty bouncy boat ride from isla mujeres to mainland cancún yesterday, but it was amusing seeing all the faces of the little kids and their mums. Marion felt a bit sick though. pobrecita.
And all the shop people here are pretty funky. Some light bantering with the waiter at desayuno this morning, and then a hilarious conversation with some shoe shop people who couldn´t get their heads around how long we´d been in the country for, why we were only in their city for one day, and how come we could speak spanish so well, and weren´t we mexicans? confusing indeed.
So, chilling out on the internet cos it is hot hot hot, then off for some comida, check out the market, then to the bus station so we don´t have to pay Too much for leaving our bags in the guarda equipaje. 50p and hour man. That´s loads! Sadly, we´re going to have to miss out the usual museum rounds for this particular lugar, as EVERYWHERE cultural (apart from the churches) is closed on a monday in mexico. Meh.
So, bus at 6:45 ish, and then 18 hours later, I´ll be landing in TAPO in Mexico City, ready to face the wonder that is the metro with a rucksack.
No quiero.... :(
Wish me luck!
