Well typical us and our lack of forward planning. We got off the boat from Gili T in Padang Bai. From what it said in the book it would be a nice place to stay but when we actually realised that the port was basically it we had to make a wuick decision of where to go before all the shuttle buses and taxis left. So we ended up in Amed. Literally the most remote place we have been yet. There is nothing there, the sand is black because of the volcano and they make salt. That is it.
The only reason we came here was it was apparently the base for the diving in Tulamben a town about 20 mins away. Luckily we got a nice hotel with a pool. We some how managed to find a tiny little place for tea and a bar with live reggea music that evening but we were diving the next day so we neded to be up early.
The dive was at a shipwreck called the liberty, a japanese boat that sunk over 60 years ago. Agin this was a new dive experience as it was a shaw dive. You gear up in the sand (well huge rocks in our case) get in the sea and then put your fins on and decent from there. It was really odd but cool. The dive itself was amazing, the first dive we went around the ship, it was abit dissapointing as we all imagined it to look like a ship just on the bottom but you couldnt really make out the shape of it. It was huge though, about 120 mtrs long and the coral on it was so colourfull, the best we had seen. There were some HUGE fish that came so close to us we loved it.
After an hour we had our second dive, this time we went in the ship under and over the guns, into some sort of rooms, not that you could tell but still one of my favorite dives yet. And generally just exploring the inside of the ship which is pretty cool.
Tha night we found another little place for food were all the guys working there were sat around with guitars and drums so had a fun night singing along with them.
