Well, after 5 years of travelling and 2 years of saving the time has finally arrived for us to jet off on our travels for the next year. We thought saying our goodbyes would be much sader than they were but seems the excitment took over, cant say much about our mums though, the tears were never ending!!
The flight
The first flight to london was ok, and I was very happy that we even got wine in the 35 minutes we were in the air = ) We connected at Heathrow so after having something to eat it was ready for what felt like the first proper flight. James was disapointed we were'nt on the A380 after seeing it just land, but still it was a jumbo so he was happy. We did try for a free upgrade but we were'nt very lucky but never mind, got a year to try!
On the way we watched 'The Best Exotic Marigold' which was really funny and quite appropriate on the way to india.
Any way on to the more exciting stuff.....INDIA, what a crazy, wierd but amazing place. We arrived at about 6am in the morning we think (we thought India was 7 or 8 hours ahead untill about 6pm last night when we found out it was 4 and a half hours infront, oops!
First impression was it's just insane, people were showering in the street, the driving, well tha'ts just another story it's everyone's right of way all the time and when I say we've had a few near misses already I mean it, they dont seem to bat an eyelid though, there quite happy honking there horns = )
We arrived at our hotel at god knows what time with our time mixup, but we know it was early and really did not look very apealing, people asleep in the streets random cows n monkeys just wandering around, even more horrifying when we got out the car to be shown down some dingy alley way with urinals lining the wall to our hotel called Smyle Inn. We went straight up to our room and it was much better than we thought, no luxurys but clean. We slept for a few hours and then headed out to thE main Bazzar. What a change it had been from that morning the street was lined with shops selling sari's, herbs, spices, jewelry and other random things. Deffinatly a bit of a culture shock but we loved it. We took a cycle rickshaw down to Connaught Place which is where there are more restuarants but some guy kept following us so we just went back to the bazzar.
The heat is just ridiculous, its 46 degrees so by the time we had walked back we had literally never sweated so much, we had showers and then went back out later on for food. Expecting there to loads of places to eat we found one dingy little cafe but were so hungry we just went in and had pizza, so much for trying the local cuisine.
Today we had a full day trip of Delhi, we were both so tired so really were'nt in the mood to start but the day just got better. We went to a Hindu Temple, followed by the Red Fort, which should take a good few hours to get round but because it was stupidly hot we just ran in and out. We also visited India Gate, the Lotus Temple, Visited the memorial park where Gandi is buried followed by a peacefull walk around where he used to live, well untill I got shouted at for walking in his footprints on the floor oops! By this time we were so hungry our amazing driver for the nest few days Sanjeed took us to Mcdonalds for dinner, we are submersing ourself slowely with the indian cuisine as we have a few long drives this week so thought we'd stick to what we know for now. Poor James, dont think he was quite prepared for the lack of food we'd be getting.
So thats our first day done, but plenty more to come, our hotel has an amzing travel desk and we have arranged a trip to visit Jaipur for 2 nights, 1 night at a Tiger temple Ranthanbore, and a night in Agra for a sunrise trip to the Taj Mahal, followed by an overnight train to Khajura for one night and then another sleeper train to Varanessi for 2 nights and then yey a flight to Goa for some well deserved beach time! all this for 270 quid its so cheap.
