Day Twenty-Nine
Total relax
Up not so early, these late nights are killing us. We ate our porridge then we headed down stairs as our new friend the lovely Argentinian lady Ana was leaving & heading for another part of China. It means now that we won't have anybody to really laugh with late at night. We might just get the chance to meet up in Vietnam which would be fantastic or fanstastico as she say!
After Ana left & we had waved her goodbye at the hostel door we settled on the big sofas & we put on Viva Cuba the movie & snuggled in to watch it. It was lovely to relax & not be going on a trip or a bus ride somewhere & as the weather wasn't great we thought sod it, time to relax before our long journey to Hong Kong tomorrow night.
After the movie it was time to do some washing & make sure we had some clean clothes as the hostels facilities are really good & they are free so we might as well take full advantage. We pottered around the hostel whilst waiting for the washing machine to finish it's cycle. With the washing done it was time to get some food.
We had been told about this really cheap cafe called Kelly's that made English type food so we set off to find it. After walking the streets for about 15 minutes we eventually found the cafe. We parked our bum & ordered off the menu. Andy had ordered beans on toast with a poached egg & I had ordered fried egg on toast & some cheesy chips, by jolly everything was demolished. All nicely fed we dossed around the hostel & messed about on the computer. We were having fun talking to other people & trying to explain the English language to them as they didn't have a clue. It was great teaching Yau English phrases especially Scouse slang. It was hysterical hearing him repeat what we said but in a complete different accent - it was funny!!
Movie time - we decided to put a film on for everyone to watch so we picked 'Bruno'. We all settled down to watch it but it didn't take long for the ooooos & aaaarghhs to kick in! The Chinese people were disgusted by our English humour & the dirty comedy style antics certainly didn't go down to well. Yau had politely informed us that this movie would be banned in China if anyone found it hahaha! After laughing so much & enjoying watching the Chinese people's disgusted faces we thought we would give them a double dose so after Bruno finished we decided to put on Borat. Let round two of the shock tactics begin. As the movie was playing the sofas were getting more & more comfortable & our eyes began to get heavy. We could feel ourselves drifting slowly off to sleep so we decided to go to the room & have a nap.
Had we really slept that long? It was 10pm & we went for a nap at 7pm - we must have needed it. Time for tea! With us being lazy & tired we decided to just grab a McDonalds for ease & quickness. After our food we went back to the hostel to sort out our hostel for Hong Kong. Luckily Yau the man from Hong Kong was there to ask & give us advice. With our plans for Hong Kong all sorted we could begin to relax & enjoy the rest of our last night in Yangshuo. To finish off our fabulous time in Yangshuo we decided to go to a place called Monkey Janes for a few beers & to enjoy the rooftop bar there.
With beers purchased we parked our bum on these little sofas & soaked up the atmosphere from the other drunken people there. This place was cool but we wouldn't have liked to have stayed there as our hostel accommodation. The music was booming, the chatting was loud but it was a cool place to hang out & they even have a beer pong table for which Monkey Jane's is famous for. We sat & watched beer pong being played & we seen contestants coming & going but there was a great tag team (a kiwi & a man from Cambridge) & they were beating everyone. I think it was our time to challenge these winners. With the beers bought & the table set - let the beer pong games begin. It was our shot first & I sunk a ping pong ball in the 1st of the 6 cups of our contestants, the room went up in cheers as the other team was shouting beginners luck - we were danced around in celebration! It was there turn - miss! The game continued & it started to become close. After Andy's valiant efforts the other team managed to bring it back to one a piece. It was tight - who was going to be the winners? Us of course, another great shot from Andy made us the champions of Monkey Jane's Beer Pong!!! Unfortunately the rooftop bar was closing so we all got kicked out back to our own hostels but is was 2.30am.
What a great finish to end the 1st chapter of our travelling.... Off to Hong Kong tomorrow, we can't wait.........
