We didn't get to St. George until midnight California time, which was actually 1am Utah time, so we didn't want to do anything too strenuous today. We didn't venture too far from our resort, but still got in a lot of sight-seeing.
First of all, a very special thank you to my brother Tim, who gifted us three nights at this resort. We got to choose anywhere their resorts are, but we wanted it to be close enough to where we could drive, but far enough away to make it feel like a real vacation. Since Zion was nearby to this one, we had never been, and always wanted to go, we chose St. George for our destination. Also, a very special thank you to our close friends Chelsea and Brandon who joined us on this adventure, and were excellent travel companions, as always.
Our day started with a local cafe, The Bear Paw Cafe, which had great reviews. We loaded up on breakfast (a very delicious and filling one!) then headed out for some photos and sight-seeing.
Our first stop was Pioneer Park. According to our hotel staff, not very special, but since we don't see this kind of stuff we were live, was pretty exciting to us. Red rocks, steep hills for some cool views, and excellent photo ops. We spent maybe an hour here enjoying the view of St. George and goofing off for the camera.
We then headed to Snow Canyon State Park. Here was a bit more strenuous of a hike, but very well worth it. We attempted to go down into a cave which was supposed to lead out the other end to the beginning of a different trail. We couragously all made our way down the not-so-easy way into the cave, realized there was no through path, then found an easier way out of the cave, only to find it did go through to a different part of the trail, but it was too late at that point. We crawled our way up a Winnie-the-Pooh sized hole out of the rocks, and except for a sizeable bump on Jaime's head, all made it out alive and unharmed. Jaime is ok, by the way, just will take a few days for the bump to heal. Luckily it did not cause a headache big enough to hinder the rest of our hike or trip. I told him to think of it as a free souviner. Chelsea was the first out of the cave, so we did not get any photos of her, but she was nice enough to capture the wonder of all of us coming out. ;) After making it out of the cave, we continued down the path for more views and photos, then back to the Jeep to go back to our resort.
We woke up fairly early, so by the time we finished these little excursions, we had plenty of time to relax with some cold beer at the hot tub, which felt amazing after a half a day of hiking and walking about. The trails at Snow Canyon State Park while marked, were very rocky.
We then checked online for ideas for dinner, as our original plan was to buy some groceries and save money to cook dinner ourselves, but we were far too tired to do that. So we ended up braving a Mexican restaurant, even though the front desk staff at our place warned us that we might not be pleased being from California and being used to legit, amazing Mexican food. However, the Green Iguana Mexican Restaurant in St. George, Utah did not disappoint. And their guacamole was some of the best we have ever had.
We turned in kind of early, because Zion National Park - our destination for Sunday was about 45 minutes away, and can get rather crowded. So we wanted to ensure we got there early enough to avoid the large crowds for park entry and park shuttles.
