Becky Bravo's Adventures
Today was spent wandering around the White Moutnain area of New Hampshire. I arrived at my hostel last night. I only paid 24 bucks, and had a room all to myself. And even better, I met a girl - Annika who was a lone traveler like myself, however she was from Germany. She accompanied me on our little mini adventures today, as did a lady from New Zealand, she was staying at working at the hostel.
So, we decided to take a tour van up Mt. Washington - the highest peak in the North East, It is only a little over 6,000 feet, which is not a spectacular size in comparison to other high peaks, but special in that it has weird weather patterns, and crazy history.
The highest recorded wind (by man) was recorded at the top of this mountain. and the road that winds up it has been in service non-stop for over 150 years. The weather is so crazy that even though it was sunny and clear down the mountain, it was like 59 degrees and slightly windy at the top. Trees do not even grow at the top of this mountain. As we were winding up the road, we went from tall trees, to shorter trees to only rocks and tundra.
Thank goodness we took a tour van up it, because driving my rental car up there would have been SCARY!! there are no guard rails or anything. Just windy road. Plus, it was not too expensive to do, and we got some good history and fun facts from our tour guide.
After we ventured back down the mountain, we dropped the New Zealander off back at the Hostel, and Annika and I went to this place called Diana's Baths. It was just tons of rocks with water flowing down them into these little pools and ponds. It was quite the popular swimming hole. There were tons of people there.
Then we ventured over to Cathedral's Edge, this crazy rock mountain where many a rock climber venture up. We drove up a ways and got a good picture from a fenced in viewing point.
I dropped Annika off back at the Hostel and began my drive to Warren, VT.
