Becky Bravo's Adventures
When we arrived in Malaysia and I got to be one of the first ones of the ship because I had to leave for Borneo. Itwas pretty low key, we just left the boat around 9 am, got to the airport, and had to take 2 flights to where we stayed in Sabah. I did a little walking around a mall that was near the hotel, but did not buy anything. Then we went to bed fairly early because we had to wake up before 6 am the next morning so we could catch our flight to Sandakan. That was a very early day. But we got the Orangutan Rehabilitation Clinic. We first watched a little video on what the center was all about, and then we took a walk to a feeding station where we got to see rangers feed the orangutans. It was incredible. There were so many of them! And the other kind of monkeys (I forget what they were called) were just chilling on the railings by where we all were. I am not going to lie, they were super cute, but also scary. If somebody got to close they would jump up and kind of hiss. Then this one guy on my trip had this bright pink bag because he bought a shirt, and one of the monkeys came right up to him and grabbed it out of his hands! He got it back, but not without a little struggle. It was actually pretty funny. But that picture of me with a monkey right next to me, you can kind of tell I am a bit apprehensive because I was nervous it would poke my eyes out or something. But it was all fun. It was awesome to see all the orangutans come out of the jungle and eat. This one little one kept stealing bananas from the other ones and they would fight over them. It was so entertaining. After that we were supposed to just eat lunch and catch a flight back to Sabah, but the flight was changed and we spent the day in Sandakan. We saw a temple and did some more sight-seeing. I took a nice long nap on the tour bus. It was good times. I really wanted to pay some money to 'adopt' an orangutan for a year and help fund its rehabilitation, but I didn't have enough cash on me, but I can do it online when I get home. Which I think I will do because they do amazing work for those animals there. The next day was early as well, (but not as bad!) we took a bus to Kinabalu Park and took a hike through the rainforest. I saw a spider that was so huge I was convinced it was fake, but then it ate another smaller spider (that was a treat to see) and then obviously I knew it was real. It was so gross. I got a picture of it, but I wont post it because I don't want to give any of you nightmares, and I do want you to continue to read my blogs. Anyways, we hiked for a while and took a huge uphill hike to the canopy walk which was wicked cool. A little frightening, but cool. It was just this little walkway up in the canopy of the trees, and at parts it was really wobbly and I was nervous I was slip and fall. But I survived. I got some pictures of that for ya. Then we were able to just chill and go in the hot springs (which I did not do because the sulfur in it smelled much like poo) but I did go in a pool and took another smaller hike to a waterfall. It was a lot of fun in the rainforest. Then we went back to the hotel and some people went out but I was so tired, so me and my roommate (my friend Hayley, in many of the pictures) just stayed in and caught up on some sleep. So that was my time in Malaysia. I spent all the nights off of the ship and that was a really nice to be away from the ship for a long period of time. Sorry it took me so long to post this blog, I usually am better at it, but I got a little lazy.
