Today we arrived in our final port - Norwegian's Cruise Line's private Island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay. Orginally, this was going to be our only stop in the Bahamas, as we were going to spend the night in Havana, Cuba, but since we got re-routed this was our third stop in the Bahamas. Jaime and I are actually really glad that we got to experience other parts of the Bahamas, as this private Island was really just an extension of the ship, and you really did not get a feel for local flavor or culture. Freeport and Nassau definitely gave us that.
Since our group of 8 rented a cabana on the island, we got priroity boarding on the tender to bring us to the island. It was a short 15 minute ride to get there. It was really bright and beautiful in the morning, but as you can probably tell from our photos, it did end up raining quite a bit and became cloudy. But we still got to enjoy our little beach area, and since we had a cabana, the rain didn't bother us at all!
Unfortunatley I did not capture many pictures today. We spend most of our time in the water next to the reef snorkeling, and my underwater camera broke when we were in Panama. So instead of focusing on photos, we just enjoyed our time in the water. And as I said, the island is an extension of the ship, so we had people bringing drinks to us, and there was a food truck as well as the buffet for lunch.
Jaime and I bought these awesome snorkels off of Amazon, and instead of two pieces, it is a full face mask. It is much easier to breathe in, and also more sanitary if you want to share as there is not a mouth piece. So we were able to let a couple others in our group use our snorkels as well. I am so upset I didn't get a picture of those though, because they look quite funny. But the best part was we saw TONS of fish! Small ones, big ones, stripey ones, Mary even saw a Sting Ray! I did't see it, but that is still pretty cool. We also got these mats included with our cabana, so were able to float around and relax on those as well.
So you remember the other day when I learned my lesson? Well, Since Jaime went to town on his Bahama Mamas, (or, I'm sorry, his "Stellas") last night, he was felling the effects of it today. But again, lucky for him we had the cabana, because he was able to take a nap once we got there and he felt much better and was able to enjoy the snorkeling too.
Something I totally forgot to mention, Jesse and Hayley have traveled quite a bit as well, and on their honeymoon, they started a tradition of making a music video for their trips. So this trip they did the same thing, so in notable locations, we would play the song and lip sync to it, and once we get back, he is going to compile it into a music video! I can't wait to see it!
Speaking of lip syncs....The first night of our cruise, I was kinda bummed that I didn't get chosen to be part of that dance compeition, well it all worked out for the best because tonight, I got to participate in a lip sync contest, and I WON!!! I did Britney Spears' song Oops I did It Again. I was able to pull of my backhandspring, and the crowd went nuts! The winner was voted on by applause and I won by a landslide! Jesse also did a lip sync to Prince's song Kiss. He did an INCREDIBLE job, but even he said he thought I deserved the win. It's hard to beat a backflip. ;) I won a bottle of champagne and a bunch of Norwegian swag like a water bottle, keychain, t-shirt, and some other small things.
There were a ton of people watching the contest, so the rest of the night on the ship, people would see me and be like Oh my gosh, its Britney! And they told me what a good job I did. The comedian that did a show before, (The one we got our photo with) did an adult comedy show tonight, and while we were in the theater waiting, a lady behind me asked if I was a profession performer. I said I was a Zumba instructor, and she said to be sure to tell all my students what I did as they would be proud. If you go to the videos section on my profile page, I uploaded the first 45 seconds of my lip sync. Hayley was nice enough to record it.
After the comedy show (which was late at 11pm as it was 18 and over only due to the adult content) wanna guess where we went? You better believe we went up to deck 11 for second dinner. We had our first dinner at 5:30pm with our group as usual. It was a great dinner, but we kinda rushed through it so we could go participate in a Friends (the TV show) trivia game. We got every answer right, but didn't win anything, but it was still fun.
Anyways, talk about an eventful evening. Tomorrow, we dock back in Miami, and that is the trip. We had an amazing time, especially me tonight, because it was nice to be a rockstar for an evening. But as always, we look forward to coming home and seeing our Winnie.
I gotta say, our second cruise experience beats our first cruise experience for sure. Norwegian Cruise Line definitely is a step up from Carnival. Since we have a future cruise credit, we are looking forward to booking our next one through this line.
