Kate and I had heard nothing but good things about San Fran so we were pretty anxious to see it. It definitely didn’t disappoint.
We got a greyhound from Los Angeles to San Fran which took about 8 hours. When we entered San Fran it was dark but it looked really nice all lit up.
We stayed at a small but cozy hostel just off Union Square. We were pretty lucky as we didn’t realize how close the hostel was to the centre. The hostel had a kitchen so we could FINALLY cook for ourselves and save ourselves some money.
That first night we checked out Union Square which was smaller than we imagined. Kate got all excited about the huge Christmas tree in the centre. We took multiple pictures in front of it.
Our first whole day in San Francisco was my 24th birthday. Kate treated me and took me to the cinema to see New Moon. That alone was pretty exciting for me as Kate is now into it but not only did we go to the cinema we went to ROBERT REDFORD’s cinema. I love that man, so I was in heaven the whole time. We didn’t see him. After that we went and did the essentials, food shopping. We got a big bottle of wine, headed back to the hostel, cooked tea and played cards with some wine. Oh and also we hit up Goodwill and got some warm jackets and a few books.
For the rest of the week we were there we saw Pier 39 and the sea lions that are in the harbor, there were ahhh’s all round. We had some Clam Chowder in a bread bowl which was a must I got Kate to try. It was really nice but light on the clams.
On one of our final days we went to Alcatraz. It was definitely a must for us to do. It was surreal being on the island and the history was interesting. It was weird standing outside a cell block where most of the battle of Alcatraz happened. It was pretty chilly and I nearly lost my hat on the boat over.
The Golden Gate Bridge was pretty fantastic. The walk was a bit of a stretch but very pleasant.
We really enjoyed San Francisco. It was really picturesque as a city and had a certain charm. The hills however were torture but it’s one of the things it’s most famous for so I tolerated them lol.
