Brugge was officially my first destination on the Busabout circuit. It is a very small town in Belgium where the population is only 170000.
It took us around 5 hrs to get here from Paris, and it was a pretty smooth ride all the way. By the time we arrived it was time for lunch, so a few of us decided that we would go for a walk around town and see what we could find.
This place is just amazingly quiet and so laid back, which was definitely needed after the past few cities I've been to.
Every night the hostel we stayed at does a 2hr free walking tour around the town, so needless to say the 7 of us who decided to get off the bus at Brugge and not go straight to Amsterdam (who were all Aussies mind you), decided this was probably the best way to see and get the history of this place. The guide spoke great English, (which is like a majority of people in Brugge, and it definitely came in handy) and we got so much information and some great pics from it.
The next day I decided to wander around the town on my own, and I went and checked out the Choco story museum. I'm sure you all know that Belgium is very well known for their chocolate, so they have a museum telling people how chocolate came about, plus give out free samples. Dad I swear you would've loved this place.
After this I went into the town centre and went up to the top of their Belfort Tower (this is their bell tower, which was another 366 stair climb), and was able to get a really nice view of the city. Fortunately I made it up to the top for the 2pm bells, which was fantastic. Once I heard the bells, thought it was time to check out the shops and girls the shopping here is pretty good aswell.
That night after dinner and a few drinks at the hostel, Ranee, Shani (2 girls from Adelaide) and myself decided to go and check out the Belgium waffles, and let me tell you they are huge and taste great. We were lucky enough to get some free entertainment at the cafe we were at. A waiter and the chef started having a huge arguement in the kitchen and could be heard all over the cafe. Some other waiters tried to quiet them down, but didn't work. We were waiting for plates to be smashed and punches to be thrown, but luckily the waiter eventually walked out and took off somewhere. Great waffles and free entertainment what more could you ask for haha.
That's pretty much Brugge in a nutshell for the 1 1/2 days I was there. It was definitely a relaxing place, and everyone loved it. Now the next stop is the complete opposite.
Amsterdam here we come.......
