I flew back to Bangkok from Vietnam. Now I plan to explore the Southern islands of Thailand. My first stop was Kho Pha Ngan. I can't make the Full Moon Party so I decided the next best thing would be the Half Moon Party. So after a very long bus journey and two ferries I made it to Bann Tai, Ko Pha Ngan. This is a quieter area next door to the party beach of Hat Rin. The beach was was nice - but not as spectacular as Ko Samet, but the weather was quite cloudy. When the rain came I treated myself to a much needed pedicure! On the Half Moon party nightme and three friends I'd meet headed to an all you can eat bbq. We sat on a circular table which had a bbq as it's centre piece on which we had to cook the raw meet and veg collected upfront from the buffet. The cooking experience was probably more enjoyable than the eating!
After our little feast we stocked up on Hong Tong - a Thai whiskey/rum and after some pre-drinks we headed up to the jungle where they party was taking place. The place was totally packed with people and techno was pumping out of the huge sound systems. After some obligatory buckets and glow paint I was soon partying away!
The next day I explored the west of the island which was very beautiful and peaceful. There were a couple of sand paths out to sea.
After leaving the island I went to Ko Samui and stayed in the town Lamai. I didn't particularly like what I saw of this island. It was very touristy with seedy bars. Although there was a great food market! I also saw the Grandmother and Grandfather rocks which are shaped like male and female genitalia!
