After leaving Penang at 10pm we reached the port at 3am, this was a lot earlier than expected and I hadn't got much sleep! I had to wait 4 hours for the first boat to take me across to Kecil, the smaller Perhentian island. I was struggling to keep my eyes open due to lack of sleep and the sea breeze but it worth it to see the amazing endless turquiose sea. As we approached the land we had to get into smaller water taxis which would take us right up to the shore. There was no pier on Long Beach where I choose to stay. Crossing the white sand I set out to find some accomodation, I had heard rumours that it was hard to find rooms here and indeed I had to ask in four resorts before I could find a beach bungalow. After a much needed nap I got some lunch and took to sunbathing on the beach. It is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to!
There is not much to do here! It's perfect for diving and snorkelling and then just relaxing on the gorgeous beach. Unfortunately accomodation and food is quite expensive but as there's nothing to do the costs balance out. It's a very tiny island with just a handful of restaurants and two bars along the beach. Then there are the hotels/beach bungalows or chalets set back from the beach. At night the bars put out cushions for customers on the beach and it is a very relaxed environment. There were also a few fireshows going on. Not forgetting the weather! - the sun is extremely hot here and I struggle to sunbathe for long! Thank goodness I have factor 50 with me! There are also massive lizards chilling under my beach bungalow!
A ten minute walk across the island led to Coral Bay. It was even smaller than long beach and a lot quiter. As the name suggests there was much coral in the sea and bits sprinkled across the shore. The sunset on the sea on this side of Kecil Island and it was a very pretty sight to see.
