I'm in India. Officially. After months and months of talking and planning I'm in Delhi, India and it's bloody fantastic. The flight was an absolute breeze - a 9 hour flight with a quick stop in Brussels, two meals, Midnight in Paris followed by an X-Men marathon and a surprising amount of alcohol to say it was 11am when we starting drinking. Dad's argument was that it was 3:15pm in India so it was totally acceptable to be drinking gin and tonics and red wine....admittedly I didn't argue with him! Start as we mean to go on is the mantra of the day.
Most people when checking into their hotel at 11pm would just go to bed. This WAS NOT the case for us. We ditched the bags and were straight out on the street heading for My Bar (a favourite place of my dad's which he frequents whenever he's in Delhi). I quickly found that Royal Stag whiskey and lemonade is the drink I'll be having for the next 6 months - tastes like ginger beer and costs less than a pound! Dad had been telling me that My Bar is a great place to meet people, other travellers and Delhi natives alike. He was absolutely right - within an hour we had another four people at our table - Koka, Sangita, Helen and Nathan (the latter two being English but living in Delhi for work). We quickly settled the suspicion that I was dad's daughter and not his young girlfriend (I need to start wearing a sign that explains that because it's a recurring problem!) .Closing time came and went but going home wasn't an option - the six of us piled into a tiny car and drove across Delhi to The F Club where drinking, smoking and general merriment was enjoyed until 3am. The night culminated in Dad falling/sprinting down a flight of steps from the foyer of a very fancy hotel and my first Delhi 'no doors' rickshaw home with Nathan and dad.
A fantastic welcome to Delhi :-)
