Wow, not written again in ages! So im not actually in south africa at the moment! Im in a tiny country (its not actually tiny!) which is surrounded by south africa...its incredible here. Its called Lesotho, and people call it the kingdom in the sky as its all in mountains. I got here last tuesday and was suprised as when i got off the bus i had to walk over the borders, got my passport stamped and then i was greated by so many wonderful people! I then jumped on another 4 hour bus ride to a place called semonkong(not said how its written!!) the journey was hilarious, everyone was staring at me as they rarely see white people, let alone a white woman/girl! The road started of as concrete but after a couple of minutes it changed to a dirt track which was then just stone, winding round hundreds of mountains...luckily i wasnt travel sick! anyway i finally arrived in semonking...i cant describe how little this place is and how deprived it is. "Town" was just shacks which were independent stores, there were 2 supermarkets that you wouldnt even call a shop back home!
People live in small little round huts, with straw roofs, everyone type lesotho into google now! I dont have enough time to explain everything! Everyone gets around here by ponies or horses, goats, donkies..you name it. Just not cars! Its like seeing shepards everywhere...and they all wear these blankets even when its boiling outside! and the weather is unpredictable here, one minutes its boiling and the next day its snows!
So since being here ive hiked to a waterfall, which was beautiful and ive pony trekked in the mountains....i cant explain how beautiful it is here. HOWEVER i get stared at whevever i walk, a child was even scared of me beacuse of my colour, not nice ey!
Before Lesotho....i got a cheap flight to joburg, when i arrived i hired a car with some friends and i drove us to soweto, which is a HUGE township, over 4 million people live there. So we staied over night and i did a bicycle tour there (missing my cambridge bike so much!), it was fasinating, ive found some projects there too so maybe next time im in south africa ill go there for a few months? so much to do! Anyway so i went to a pub there, which was a shack, but its hom made beer and they serve it in like paint buckets...ill upload some photos so you can all see, its hilarious though! you have to drink 2l of this beer to get pissed, dont worry i didnt stay long. You all know what im like on beer! But as i was there at like 10am, i had the breakfast beer which tastes like yoghurt, something i deffinatley wouldnt mind for breakfast! Brilliant experience though, met some amazing people there too. Soweto has a lot of history....after that we drove to the apartheid museum, which was equally as interesting. We then arrived in BORING jobrug, which i have to say i wouldnt mind never seeing again! nothing to do there or anything...borrrring!
We then went to Bloemfontein and then to Lesotho, and now im waiting around in maseru for my 18.50 bus back to my favourite place: CAPE TOWN!
Since i last wrote i climbed table mountain with some of my friends i met here, brilliant day, i loved it so much. im going to do it maybe the day before i leave though so i can sleep on the flight back! but this time im going to abseil down...how fun!
Ive been away from my african family for 2 weeks now, andi miss them! And 2 weeks away from my kids is torture...only 2 weeks left and imback in rainy england. Although i have to admit i am looking forward to seeing all your faces!
If you lot want anything in particular from africa get your requests in now! Not sure how much space i have as im giving most my clothes to street children before i leave but either text or facebook me or something!
Missing you all, cant wait to see you all (although as ive left the country now my south african visa is renewed....maybe ill stay longer?!!!)
SEE YOU VERY SOON xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
