Unfortunately my flight was delayed arrivng in Nadi -typical "Fiji time!" so I missed the transfer aboard the Yasaw Flyer to meet up with the girls on the Yasaw islands. Instead I checked into the Nadi Bay hostel, 10k or so south ofthe airport which is nice with two pools and two restaurants, which ae perfect to laze the day away inthe heat (which is a shock to my system even after Austrlia!).
In the afternoon I went on a tour with some other (pretty mature) tourists to the lookout point, the Garden of the Sleeping Giant and also for a village visit to Visauvesu. The lookout was spectacular, with great views of the Mamanucas islands and Nadi bay, and we tried some local fruit. Surprisingly I really like the pineapple here! Then we went to the village, which was the first Fijian village and the one that Prince Charles visited and tried kava. Our gide was great, and he had an incredible voice that he showed off in their methodist church - religion is really big ever since the missionaries converted the locals from cannibalism a couple of hundred years ago. After bumping along a track road we got to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, which as more species of orchids than even Singapore- some 2,000 varieties!
At the end of the trip I went to Nadi town with Penny and Ozzy, two Americans from near Seattle for cash before my trip to the remote isdlands. Fortunately they bumped nto me just as my card got stuck in the ATM! I got it back in the end, but I learnt my lesson about banks in less developed countries!
