My flight left Melbourne this morning (4th May) at 10.10 am and, after a 14 hour flight I landed in Los angeles at 7am the same day... so before I even left Australia..as you can imagine I'm feeling pretty jeglagged!! Probably not the best time to write a blog but i'll give it ago!!
I wrote my last update on my first day in Byron Bay and have since been to Surf Camp, Sydney and Melbourne so have had a busy couple of weeks!
We had 5 nights altogether in Byron Bay which was definitely my favourite place on the East coast..it just had such a relaxed vibe to it, and it was sunny pretty much the whole time which definitely helped!
We spent most of out time walking around the town and on the beach, we also did the famous walk up to the lighthouse on the hillside above the beach from which the views were amazing! On one of the days we went on a tour to a nearby town called 'Nimbin' which is known as the drug capital of Australia..it was quite similar to Byron but just a bit more weird and hippyish. It is usually full of drug dealers but we didnt see any as they were all at some sort of protest the day we went!
There was an outdoor communal area in the hostel we stayed in with a really nice atmosphere in the evenings so we just went there most nights which was a nice change and meant we didnt need to spend as much money going out in town.
After Byron Bay there was a compulsory Oz Experience stop at 'Spot X' surf camp where we all had a 'free' surf lesson (I say 'free' because they made us pay 50 dollars when we got there although we did get all our food and accommodation included in that).. I was dreading it because I really didn't think i would enjoy it or be very good at surfing surfing (I wasn't) but it was actually really good fun! I managed to stand up on the board..although it was just for a few seconds!
Sydney was the next stop after Spot X, and the final stop on the Oz experience! When we first arrived we felt so lost as we had not been in a big city for ages but we soon got used to it and had a great 4 days there. We did a lot of sight seeing and walking around the city and also go the ferry to Taronga Zoo on our last day there which was really good.
My last stop in Australia before flying to the states was Melbourne. I was only there for 2 days so had to cram a lot in in! On the first day we tried to get all the main sight seeing done. I think we got to see most of the city but It did feel a bit rushed! On the second day we did the Neighbours tour which drove us round to the the school (Erinsborough High), the studio and Ramsay Street (which is called Pin Oak Court in real life) was so weird being there after watching it on TV for so many years. I really enjoyed it anyway despite being laughed at by a few people for going on it!
I am Leaving Los Angeles on a 2 week Contiki tour leaving tomorrow morning for San Diego, really hoping there are some nice people on it! I will write an update soon anyway so you all know how I am getting on. Not long now..home in less than 3 weeks!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
lots of love xxxxxxx
