Retired & Traveling
Since the Security Office had taken my fan away from me, I had a very restless night. I slept for a couple hours and then the quiet got to me and I was awake most of the rest of the night. My mattress was also quite hard so I requested our steward, Elmer, to see if he could make it softer.
We decided since we would be at sea all day we would eat breakfast in the formal dining room. We sat with a couple of ladies that were originally from Portugal--a mother and daughter celebrating the daughters 50th birthday. Lucy (the daughter) had lived in Boston most of her life and had a very thick Boston accent. Her mother had a Portuguese accent and I had a hard time understanding her. There was also a lady named Jo that was from Georgia that was a retired chemistry teacher. Once we were finished eating, Ashley and I browsed thru some of the shops and picked up a few souvenirs.
I decided to go see about getting my fan back from Security. I managed to find their office (which was no easy feat) and begged the officer to give me back my fan. The irony of the whole mess is that he had a fan plugged in & operating on his desk! After giving him my word that I would not leave it plugged in when I wasn't in the room, he gave it back to me. Sweet!!
After dropping off the fan at our room, Ashley & I joined a trivia challenge and got 12 out of 20 correct...I think the winners had 17 right. Bingo was next and we lost 4 out of 4 games. :((. We had fun trying though. Next on our agenda was watching 2 of the kitchen staffers use vegetables & fruits for arrangements--see photos. They did all of these "sculptures" in about 30 minutes.
We attempted to go watch a movie outside under the stars but it wasn't open due to the high winds and rough seas. I about lost my neck scarf and Ashley's shoe just about blew off her foot!
By this time we were ready for lunch so we hit the buffet--it was very breezy in the dining hall due to doors opening constantly and we headed back to the room to warm up. (Which is weird for us since it's JUNE!!) We were both tired and nothing was on the afternoon schedule that sounded exciting, so we just hung out and relaxed.
It was formal night so we got all dolled up and headed off to dinner. We joined some fellow travelers--a couple from Granberry, TX -- Ralph & Kathy -- and a mother-in-law/daughter-in-law that were from Spokane. The food was delicious and we ate until we were stuffed. Afterwards, we went into the Princess theater to see this dancing show--we ended up leaving after about 20 min and headed over to catch this magician who was also very funny. We really liked him so we plan to attend his larger show tomorrow night.
We found out that we will be gaining another hour tomorrow--which probably means I'll be awake at 3:00 instead of 4:00!
