Day 70, 71 & 72
Lagos, the Ios of Portugal, beaches, bars and a whole lot of Aussies. Im in a bit of a rush here, so we are just going for highlights.
First highlight was actually a bit of a lowlight as we ended up sleeping through our alarm in Lisbon and only were able to catch a late bus, losing a day on the beach. What made it even worse was that Wazzy actually turned off the alarm so he could sleep in, we were pissed, but we have since forgiven him.
The best thing about the entire time there was the people. It really is true that its not the place you are but the people you are with that make a place truly great. Walking into the common area after we first checked in, seeing everyone sprawled out watching the simpsons we knew we had picked the place for us. It didnt take long before we were best mates, hitting the bars together, going to the beaches and of course family movie time, in which everyone in the hostel seemed to come watch a movie together at least once each day. Everyone was so in love with each other that when people had to leave for another hostel (as it was a small place) they always seemed to come back each night to Escape (our place) have pres drinks and go out together.
The pub scene was amazing just like Ios, with each place seeming to have a great gimmick. At one place taking a BB gun to the arm/chest got you cheap drinks, at another darts and PS3 were played all night long and at another a token blue drink was a crowd favourite as it went down easy and was packed with alcamajole. One thing i must mention was the constant police everywhere at night, however we werent afraid of them, as every night we were out we seemed to find the cops down in the club with us, having a beer and chatting up the locals.
Food, as I must mention in every blog, was also something very memorable as almost everything you ate was really cheap, and if it wasnt, it was definately worth the price. All you can eat sushi, gigantic wraps and a burger place listed as one of the top 50 in the world was just a few places that we fell in love with.
The beaches themselves were also magnificent and the way to got to them was alot of fun. Between each beach there was a cave through which you climbed with ropes to get to the next beach. Each day we were able to go to a new beach by just going through more caves. On the one day we even went kayaking from the one beach, seeing some amazing caves and grottos along the way.
In a rush that's all for now. Will try and catch up as soon as I can.
