Day 28, 29 and 30
As this will be my very last blog from the holy land, I better step the writing up a notch. However after the past few days I have had in Eilat and Tel Aviv, this won't be much of a challenge.
Whilst it was not so much fun at first, hopping on a 5 hour bus ride down to Eilat at 7am and walking for half an hour in the plus 40 degree heat searching for our hostel, the trip certainly picked up from there.
Arriving at our hostel we were upgraded to the family room as we were big enough to be one and embraced the air conditioning we had not felt in almost an hour. Loving the aircon so much, when we left the hostel we relocated to the shopping centre 500m away just to avoid being outside.
After eating the worst meal of the past month, we hopped in a cab and headed to Coral Beach, a great snorkeling reef nearby. Once there we hired masks and snorkels and spent the next 2 hours amusing ourselves with incredible fish and eel fighting in the Red Sea.
Due to our constant late nights and early mornings, a new system of sleeping whenever and wherever we can has come to occur. As such we have been having many afternoon Siestas which in my opinion have been fantastic!
A trip to the marina at night was still tiring as hell with temperatures still in low 30s. A walk around included dinner and drinks on the beach with a new Labrador friend we met and Gavins exciting adventure into the sky in the giant slingshot with some Israeli girls we met, that seemed keep featuring throughout Eilat.
The pre 6am wake up and the current time being past 2 forced our eyes to close as our bodies collapsed into bed.
Dragging ourselves out of bed at 11 the next morning to 'carpe' as much as we could out of the 'diem' we managed to make it to the marina before the heat of the day settled in. Looking for anything to do we considered banana boating, kayaking, tubing, a snow bar as well as going to what was only known as "umm.. Rash rash" before settling on the most amazing decision we have made this trip. We booked our incredible activity for 6pm and then headed off to kill time until then.
Lunch was served before we attempted to sneak into the Isrotel Hotel swimming pool, where unfortunately we didn't make it past the front door. But have no fear, as Eilat is bumper to bumper with hotels we tried again with much success. Aidan hit the gym whilst we hit the pools and slides and just baked in the heat of the day. By 3pm, the heat had taken it out of us an we headed back to bed for another siesta.
Waking up at 530 as to avoid any possibility of being late, we meandered to the marina and boarded our vessel. For the next two hours a bright orange, circular boat with a grill in the middle and a tiny engine on the back would be ours.
We slowly made our way out to sea and as we did this experience just got better and better. Finding iPod speakers on the boat we got the music pumping and after looking through the eskys of food they provided, it seemed like we were in for a feast. We puttered over towards Jordon tieing up just before the Israeli border. The border was made very clear by the army boats 20 metres from us with some seriously heavy machine guns on the back.
We got into our salads and first course of chicken wings and just sat back, thought about where we were and appreciated what was still ahead of us. After a lechaim we jumped into the middle of the sea and the very appropriate song of "All the ducks are swimming In the water" was played.
Back onto the boat for the main course of steak, mushrooms and potatoes before making our way into the water for another swim. As the 2 hours were coming to an end we drove slowly back to shore dragging ourselves behind the boat.
Wasting no time once back on dry land, showers were had and straight to drinks we went, meeting the girls again. After prior advice of, and I quote, "the best club in Eilat" we followed a detailed set of instructions to the other side of Eilat, only to find it closed. We walked up and down the beachfront looking for other clubs however they were majorly overpriced or for under 18s (what is that?!?)
Giving up on a club we settled for a bar and relaxed there for a couple of hours with the girls. After drinks and a failed attempt to seek out falafel at 3am, a event occurred that I am not allowed to discuss for a couple of weeks. (When you are told what you will understand why). During this event an altercation occurred with a quite odd women who believed she was an absolute genius. At times she was quite scary, threatening us with chairs and at other times calm, asking us about our lives. There was one comment that summed her up for me, "You and I have the same eyes, like tiger, we are smart people".
By the time we were finished it was past 5am and the sun was on the rise. By this point it was apparent sleep was not on the books for us. As we walked home we came across a quite large fire, that nobody seemed to notice. As our fantastic morals instilled in us as children prevented us from simply walking away we stopped to try and put it out. After attempting to play fireman as seen in South Park (using our own means to put out the fire) failed, we fell back to more typical means and found a nearby fire hose and sprayed water everywhere. The fire was put out and we walked away, as heroes.
Eventually we made it to bed by 6am hoping for a sleep in. The only problem was that we had to check out by 10am.
After a short 4 hours we were up again and dragging ourselves over to the chairs in reception. There we tried to sleep but due to the noise had little success. I farewelled the boys as I was going back to Tel Aviv early and headed to my 5 hour bus ride.
In the next 5 hours, I don't think I said a word. With my iPod on and my earphones in the only contact I had with any other person was the nod of gratitude from the person next to me after killing a fly.
Back in Tel Aviv there was no time to rest as I was straight on my way to Shiras for dinner. Finally after a month in Israel, on my last day there I eventually got to have Ziv's amazing Shakshuka.
Saying goodbye to everyone was really sad and I attempted to delay it for as long as possible. However as I had to be up in a few hours for my flight, I gave everyone I hug goodbye and was off.
As I got back to Adam, I packed up and went straight to bed. Having to be up at 3 to go to the airport, I tried to get as many hours as I could on my last day is Israel.
