Today was a big day. But actually. I spend the most hours awake that i ever have before.
Drifted off to sleep in formula one at about 12:30 am, after a last minute rush about of organization. Only to be woken at 3:30 am, off to the airport to catch my flight to LA?!!?!!!!!!!?!?
My flight was cancelled.
On this sad Monday the 13th of June 10,000 people were stranded in Melbourne airport because of some dangerous ash from a volcano eruption in woop woop. After struggling around the airport looking like a retard with my oversized bag. We waited in line for two hours at 4am in the morning only to be told to call a number, ironically 13 13 13.
Sure! I said, a lot more cheery than humanly possible, little did we know after heading back to tims car, that we would proceed to pay the outrageous parking ticket of 20 bucks and drive to a 24 hour Maccas to be TWO HOURS in hold to qantas Djhhzbsn(&)?);)&(:68854 ?!?!?!?!?!?
So began my iPhone bloons tower defense marathon while Tim snored and drooled away next to me.
We gave up at about 7 am and went back to the hotel for a few hours sleep. By this time I had informed my very worried parents about what was happening and had them both working furiously for me while I slept. What else are parents for?
By the time we woke up at 10 am this seemingly smallish problem covered every news channel and the morning papers, it looked like a real disaster! We decided the best thing to do was to head back into the airport to stickybeak and find out some more information, which is what everyone else was doing too. It was insane, as the photos will show you. We stood in line for 2.5 hours to be told we were in the wrong line and had to change to a equally long line,
However, not all was lost, after all of this waiting someone started to feel sorry for us and we were given " accommodation" vouchers as it was clear I wasn't flying out today.
This voucher was awsome, we were taken to the mantra hotel, 5 star and a little different from our last nights accommodation. 2 nights on the house with brekky!!!!
For the remainder of the day we slept and the went out to a pub for dinner which made Tim happy as he managed to get a whole chicken for 20 bucks.
Hopefully we will also get travel insurance, which means we can burn some more money!!!
Moral of this story? Make sure you have travel insurance, and dont stress if things go really wrong, eventually things will work out, you just have to be patient, in this case I got to spend some extra time with my beautiful boyfriend in a luxury hotel! Can't really complain about that!
Ps - I now fly out on Wednesday morning.
