Off Exploring
This morning we woke up bright and early, hit up the breakfast buffet, and got off the ship to see Labadee. We went on the Dragon's tail coaster for $22 (or $24, I can’t remember). You pay by cart not by person, so since we shared a cart it was much cheaper. We fit just fine and it was fun going together. It was a really short ride, not really worth $22 but the views were awesome and I would recommend going once. Kyle did the water slide too. I didn’t since I wasn’t wearing swim gear. The island itself is huge, but the part we have access to is relatively small. I’m a 31 year old out of shape smoker and I had no problem what so ever walking the entire thing. There are some rocky parts and steep steps at some points.
We’ve seen a number of wheelchairs on this cruise and the ship easily accommodates them. Wheelchairs can access most of the island, though certain beaches you get to only by stairs. There is a cement path that goes around most of the island, so a wheelchair can easily get around and walking is pretty easy too. It was worth it to get off for a few hours, but we were back on the boat by 10. Living in Florida this past year and a half has really helped to prepare us for these tropical vacations. Temperature and humidity wise Labadee is no worse than Tampa has been the last few weeks (which has been in the 90s with at least 70% humidity). Part of why we moved to Florida is because we’d like to retire in Mexico, probably somewhere around Cozumel or Playa Del Carmen. If we can’t handle Florida we’ll never handle the heat and humidity of Mexico.
This afternoon we saw the Frozen in Time ice skating show. I liked it a lot but Kyle got restless. For dinner we went to the dining room and had a different server. We really liked him, he made the experience really pleasant.
