Back to the city
We woke up pretty fresh on our first morning in Brisbane, so we decided to have a good look round the city. We had heard it wasnt a favourite place amongest backpacker as there wasnt a beach, it did however have a lagoon that was situated next to the river. We made our way through the city heading for the Southbank, we were all surprised how much we liked it here, there were hundreds of smart shops, restaurants, bars/winebars and even a casino.
We eventually got to the Brisbane river which we had to cross to get to the Southbank and the Lagoon. We arrived to see an artificial beach known as Streets beach resembling a tropical lagoon, behind the beach was Stanley street plaza with a small market, shops and a few cafes.
The area around the the river were filled with people having BBQ's and picnics, so we decided to walk along it while taking snaps of the wonderful Brisbane skyline before reaching our destination Kangaroo Point. Kangaroo Point is a collection of high rock faces that is used for absailing and rock climbing, just watching the people trying these activities was tiring enough we decided to give our feet a rest and cruise back down the river on one of the many intercity ferry's which we all enjoyed taking in the stunning views, all the more as the captain forgot to ask for the fare.
By now we were all spitting feathers so we found a nice pub on the river aptly named "The Plough" which was its ownly similarity. There was a live band playing so we spent the afternoon there just to be socialble before heading back to the hostel.
Family
As it was Saturday night we felt it would be rude not to check out the Brisbane nightlife. We had heard about a club called Family, Family was voted Australia's best club 2 years running and with 4 floors of tunes they must be playing something to our taste. After a lenghtly wait in the queue outside we eventually got in only to hear the dreaded "Hands up for Detroit" song be played on the ground floor. As this was a Ministry Of Sound event we wasn't going to let it beat us, and we decided to head straight for the top floor where we soon found ourselves getting down to some deep house beats. This become our spot for the duration of the night as we were never to far from the bar and surronded by a sea of Shiela's while listen to the music we like most.
We left the club about 5am and made our way back to the hostel. The Bunk bar was still open so we thought best to carry the night on in there as it was pretty hard to drown out the noise as our room was situated above it.
