hi all
its been a good week so far in perth and ive managed to cram quite a lot in. i touched down on friday and met some of the other volunteers, we decided to pitch down in one of the parks and watch the sunrise, absolutely beautiful. i've been staying in the emperor's crown, a hostel in northbridge. northbridge is definitely the centre of nightlife in perth as i found out on my first night. there are plenty of pubs, bars and nightclubs as well as the odd beer garden, a great idea and im surprised we don't have them in the uk, i guess because of the weather.
that weekend we went to the koala wildlife park north of perth where i saw plenty of animals i hadnt seen before: kangaroos; wallabys; dingos. we also went to cottesloe beach for the day which was simply stunning, easily the nicest beach ive been to.
the actual volunteering has been good fun, the staff are very laid back and easy to talk to. so far we've been clearing paths through the lightning swamp bushland (great name), we don't work for too long since its been extremely hot, around 34-40 so its usually just relaxing in the bush.
theres probably a few more things to add which i cant remember, so far its been great and theres a lot of things i want to do before i leave perth.
