Brrrr, waking up at 5am for a quick cup of chai and then to say our goodbyes to the Panchhal family, we then head off on a auto rickshaw to Jahnsi station. The ride we pretty chilly, it must have only been about 4 degrees!
At 6.45am we departed from Jhansi station after kicking a family off our seats as they didn't have reservations! We had paid £4.30 for the both of is to travel in sleeper class on a train for 8 hours. The bench like seats had 3 tiers, mine was the lower and Hannah's the middle, although because the train was so busy we didn't get to lay the beds down and sleep... Even if we did we probably would have had people sitting on our beds anyway, as people on the trains don't stick to their own seats!
Luckily enough we sat in the same section as a really nice Indian family who have us food as well as a scenic tour! The eldest son spoke very good English and we are now friends on FB.
Along the ride we bought some of the station food, which is sold through the windows on the busier platforms. It ranged from chai tea to cold cokes, from potato samosas to deep friend chillies, all costing around 10p/15p per item, bargin!!
Once we had arrived in Dehli we wandered straight to the rickshaw lot, here we were approached by about 10 drivers all offering us a lift. At this point we had decided on a price of £1.50 for the both of us to travel about 20 minutes. The drivers always try and boost the price however due to the sheer volume of drivers we knew we would get our haggled price....
20 minutes later we checked into Hotel Vishal,
Spent the next few days trying to sort out the rest if our travels for new year! Plans kept changing and moving around, still haven't fully decided.
We visited the national museum yesterday and saw some interesting things. We also visited the red fort, and enjoyed our first mc Donald's in India (change from spice)
And now it is the 4th of December and all we know is that for the next 10 days we will be lost in our own thoughts meditating in an ashram. Not a pip to be said and no contact to the outside world. I'll suppose you'll have to wait until after the 10 days to find out what it was like. Wish us luck, god help and hopefully our dodgy Tummy's don't get any worse ;-).
But before we go...
******** NEWS FLASH *********
It was the 3rd if December at 3.00pm, when Richard Barry and Hannah Bates was walking back the train station to their hotel on Main Bazzar, Pahar Ganj, New Dehli. When Richard Barry noticed a large delivery van full of pop that was moving slowly and very quietly. "I thought this was a bit strange as most of the vehicles here sounded like tractors." He thought
As He got closer to the van He realised that there was no driver in the van! And at this point it began to pick up a little bit of speed, a few people came running over to attempt to stop the van, completely unsuccessful!
The van at this point was moving at a steady walking pace and aiming directly at a small shop, without thinking Richard Barry, the White English man, took matters into his own hands and quickly opened the van door and slammed on the breaks bringing the vehicle to a stop!
The driver came running from the other side of the street and eventually put the hand brake on....
As they walked away from the cabin, people began to cheer and applaud Richard Barry, giving him high fives and handshakes! He felt pretty impressed with himself as the 1 tonne van could have quite easily hurt a few people!
Hero of the day :)
What would the world be like without Richard Barry.
