Fit like folks. Had a quiet first night in Singapore. We were both pretty tired so just had a wander down Orchard Road to get our bearings and went for a quiet drink. Definitely a shoppers paradise. Need to keep an eye on Vanessa!
Had a pretty busy day today. Started with some shopping on Orchard Road then got the MRT (Singapore's underground system) to Marina Bay. Had a wander around the Marina Bay shopping mall which is pretty impressive but mostly full of expensive designer shops. We've quickly come to realise that Singapore is a beautiful city but is really expensive! We then went for a whirl on the Singapore Flyer which is their equivalent of the London Eye. Basically a big wheel but the views of the Marina and harbour area are pretty impressive. We then went for a foot spa with a difference which Vanessa had spied earlier and both had a 'Fish Spa'! The Garra Rufa fish or 'Doctor fish' eat the dead skin off your feet and it is also supposed to help blood circulation. You start of with the baby fish and then move up to the adults! It's the strangest feeling ever but pretty relaxing when you get used to it.
After that we tried to get up to the rooftop bar at the MBS hotel but were not appropriately dressed, and probably smelling of fish...ha ha! So instead we jumped in a taxi and headed to Clarke Quay for a beer. Clarke Quay is pretty cool with loads of bars and restaurants on the quayside. Seems to be the party place in Singapore. Would definitely think about staying in that area if we were to come back. We arranged to meet up with a good friend of ours for a couple of drinks at Mulligans Irish Pub. Derek has been working in Singapore for a couple of months and has been away for Xmas, New Year and his 60th birthday! Think he was glad to see some familiar faces and we had a great time! Derek had a 06:00 start the next day so sensibly went home at a decent time and left me and Vanessa to party! We got ourselves a pizza and then caught a couple of the bands that were playing before getting a taxi back to Orchard Road. We had a small night cap in the Hard Rock Cafe which is 5 minutes from our hotel and caught another band in there before heading home to bed, exhausted! B....
