Good morning Vietnam!
hello hello! as you can tell from above we are now in vietnam and as you can also tell from the rapidly desceding frequency of my blogs, my patience with them is dwindling! however, knowing that i have such a dedicated and avid following in the uk has encouraged me to continue!
so following the horrific and quite shocking visit to the killing fields abd war prison in phnom penh we headed off to a happier environment in sihanoukville, on the south coast of cambodia. we spent three nights there with one of them being on a tropical island 3 hours off the coast called koh rung where we had a very basic bungalow and the luxury of a 6km stret ch of natural white sandy beach and clear warm water as we stepped out of the door! furthermore, due to it being 'off season' and subsequently quieter we only shared it with a few others who stayed near the bungalows for most of the time leaving us with a private beach! we also struck a bit too lucky with the weather which was in the high 30's!
after a few days relaxing, we left cambodia for vietnam and more specifically Ho chi minh city! having been told of the chaotic streets and 'sea of mototrbikes' we were anticipating another version of phnom penh. however, despite being busier ho chi minh was miles ahead with its clean streets, friendly population and a slight western influence. we spent one day at the tunnels used in the war where we saw some of the lethal traps, experienced the size of the tunnels and learnt about the war. today we did a mekong delta cruise taking in some rural living conditions, the back canals of the delta and a few traditional culinary delights!
tonight we are leaving for 'dalat' in the mountains of southern vietnam where we will spend a couple of nights!
all else is good here and i've made it as a millionaire! well £35 is a million dong so technically...yeh its not quite the same but its fun!
